After Resident Evil named the genre it spawned a new era in
survival horror games of which some refer to as the Resident Evil clones. This
was mainly because it was such a successful method to creating a frightening
environment. Some examples of these are:
Overblood 1 & 2 Riverhillsoft 1996 & 2001
Parasite Eve 1 & 2 Squaresoft 1998 & 1999
The Note 1997 Team Bughouse
Clock Tower 2 by Human Entertainment
Resident Evil 2 by Capcom in 1998 was the biggest selling of the Resident Evil franchise until it was finally outsold by Resident Evil 5 in 2009
